MacBook Air 13 M5 or ThinkPad X1 Carbon?
This is not a performance question. The M5 is faster under sustained load and lasts longer on battery, and both machines are quick enough for office and code. The difference is what you touch: the X1 Carbon has the best keyboard sold on a laptop, weighs a quarter kilo less, and keeps USB-A and HDMI. The Air has a better screen, a silent chassis, and costs about $550 less at the same memory and storage.

$1,099
Apple MacBook Air 13-inch
Take the Air if you type on a keyboard you already tolerate and want the battery, the silence and the lower price.
$1,645.88
Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 13
Take the X1 Carbon if you type all day, live in Windows or Linux, or need a full-size USB-A and HDMI without a dongle.
If you need more than 16 GB of memory, neither of these configurations is your answer — both solder it, so buy the tier up now or accept it for four years.
